American Telegraphy
and Encyclopedia of the Telegraph

If you can find a copy of this incredible book, and I mean if, you'll pay hundreds of dollars for a quality copy. And yet if you're really into early technology, collect telegraph gear, or maybe want to build operating replica of a typical system, this is a book you must have.

This is the fifth edition which appeared in 1912 but carries copyrights that go back to 1892. It covers everything from wet cells and galvanometers to keys, relays, printing telegraphy systems and more. In the early days of electricity before telephone became widespread at the turn of the century, the postal service and the telegraph were almost the only means of communication. Thousands of telegraph lines crisscrossed the nation, but like the Internet, the system became clogged with more and more messages. And then along came this ingenious fellow by the name of Edison who devised a way to send multiple messages in both directions over the same line. Overnight the capacity of the nation's telegraph system doubled and quadrupled. This is the classic encyclopedia of telegraphy that is very much in demand.

Incredible 700 page illustrated 1912 encyclopedia of equipment, circuits, and procedures for our first "Internet". A low-cost reprint of the rare, coveted classic. Must have for collectors & historians.

Look at the table contents, and you'll see what I mean. And as you thumb through the 700 pages, you'll find 544 illustrations of equipment, circuits, and installation methods that haven't been used in decades. This is a great book about American's FIRST Internet. It's expensive, but you certainly get your money's worth. And it's one heck of a lot cheaper than an original. If you have an original, consider getting a "working" copy that you can take with you without worry to trade shows and flea markets in your quest to acquire examples of this ancient gear. Once you see this book, you may just want to become a collector. Whatever your motive, get a copy. It's good. 6x9 hardcover just over 700 pages
