Tin Plate Work
by
Paul N Hasluck
reprinted by Lindsay Publications
Another gem from Hasluck's "Work" series from almost a hundred
years ago.
In
Hasluck's big metalworking volume
offered elsewhere in this catalog, he devotes a chapter to working sheet metal.
This is an expansion of that chapter, but here he calls sheet metal "tinplate".
In fact, the plans for the oil cooking stove are repeated here. The rest appears
to be different and quite interesting.
Chapters include tools and appliances, elementary examples,
hollowing tin plate, simple round articles in tinplate, saucepan making, square
and oval kettle making, oil cooking stove, set of workshop oil cans, fancy
paste-cutters (we call 'em cookie cutters), lamps and lanterns. And all of
this is illustrated by almost 300 illustrations!
Take a large tin can and get building! Working sheet metal can
be very satisfying
(and inexpensive). I have to wonder if maybe some of these lanterns, carefully
made and finished, might be something you could sell in crafts fairs or fleamarkets.
I guarantee you that other sellers won't have a clue as to where you got them!
Maybe you could sell wholesale to them.
Lots of illustrations and details. Same ol' high quality. (Isn't
that refreshing...) Get a copy! 5-1/2 x 8-1/2 softcover 160 pages
